Throughout the past week, the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) has been unveiling the biggest and most successful everything in music last year.
The organization represents the interests of the global music industry, and thus has special insights into what songs, artists, and albums performed the best in 2023. Today (February 27), the group shared its list of the top-consumed albums globally, and a handful of names managed not just one placement on the short ranking, but several.
Seventeen landed the No. 1 biggest album in the world in 2023 with their set FML. The title was the most-consumed, according to the IFPI, which uses a methodology that includes “sales across streaming, download, and physical music formats during the calendar year,” according to a release shared by the organization.
2023 marks the first year that Seventeen earned the biggest album in the world. The South Korean boy band has ranked among the most successful in the past, but now they can claim a very, very special No. 1. As if sitting on top wasn’t impressive enough, the same group also appears at No. 8. Their other set Seventeenth Heaven was released only a few months after FML, and it was also a powerful seller.

Stray Kids come in just after Seventeen–in both instances, actually. The fellow South Korean all-male vocal act sits at No. 2 with 5-Star and No. 9 with Rock-Star. Both titles were also released in 2023, and they sold well enough throughout the year–and the world–to appear inside this top 10 chart.
The only other act to carve out more than one space on this top 10 list is Taylor Swift. The singer-songwriter lands back-to-back hits, and she’s no stranger to this ranking, as she’s previously ruled the IFPI’s tally. Her 2022 set Midnights comes in at No. 4, while 1989 (Taylor’s Version) settles at No. 5.
In addition to the two albums from Seventeen, Stray Kids, and Swift, four other artists performed well enough to place a title on this list, with just one apiece. Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time sits at No. 3, NCT Dream (another K-pop boy band) appears at No. 6 with ISTJ, SZA’s SOS comes in at No. 7, and Travis Scott closes things out with Utopia at No. 10.
Earlier this month, Swift was officially named the most-consumed musician on the planet in 2023. She has now earned that distinction in four instances–twice as many times as any other artist. The “Cruel Summer” superstar also collects back-to-back years at No. 1, which is a feat that only BTS has managed before. Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” was deemed the No. 1 song in the world in 2023, according to the IFPI.
These were the 10 biggest albums in the world in 2023, according to the IFPI.
