Patrick, Brittany Mahomes Visit Children at Hospital After Chiefs Parade Shooting.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, visited Friday with some of the victims of Wednesday’s shooting that took place during the team’s Super Bowl parade.
Malik Jackson of Fox4 News in Kansas City shared photos of the Mahomes’ visit with an eight- and 10-year-old who were shot while celebrating the team’s second straight Super Bowl win.
One person was killed and 22 were injured when shots were fired around Union Station in Kansas City at the conclusion of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, which celebrated their 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58.
Caroline Hogan of KSHB 41 reported that “over half” the victims are kids under the age of 16.
McKenzie Nelson of KSHB 41 reported that nine children—ages six to 15—who were being treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City are expected to make a full recovery.
Mahomes, Travis Kelce and several other members of the Chiefs shared messages of support on their X accounts after the shooting.
The Chiefs also announced Friday that an emergency fund has been set up to support the victims and their families. The fund will also support violence prevention, mental health services and first responders.
The Chiefs, the Hunt Family Foundation and the NFL made a donation of $200,000:
Two juveniles have since been charged and are being detained “on gun-related and resisting arrest charges” in connection with the shooting, according to a news release from Jackson County Family Court, per the Associated Press.
The release added that it is “anticipated that additional charges are expected in the future as the investigation by the Kansas City Police Department continues.”
Police are still looking for others who might have been involved in the shooting.
The victim who died has been identified as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, who was a DJ in Kansas City. She was celebrating the Chiefs’ victory with her husband, son and daughter.
Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who is dating Kelce, made two $50,000 donations to a GoFundMe set up to support Lopez-Galvan’s family. The GoFundMe had a goal of $75,000 and has surpassed $278,000 in donations as of Friday afternoon.
