Kansas City Chief quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a big name not just in Kansas City but around the country. He led the Chiefs to yet another Super Bowl in 2024, making the sort of make-or-break snap decisions expected of someone in his position. That high level of pressure and performance ability is also why QBs are some of the highest-paid players in the NFL, and Mahomes is no exception.

Here’s a look at how he’s earned his success and the net worth he’s amassed along the way.

Mahomes, like many NFL athletes, comes from greatness. His dad, Pat, was a pitcher who played Major League Baseball for 11 seasons.

“I mean, I always just loved sports from the beginning,” Mahomes said, as reported by the Associated Press. “All sports. I loved watching. I love playing. I mean, I remember my mom used to get mad at me, because I would throw—like, you know, kids throw the ball off the wall? I’d throw it off the TV, because I was watching TV at the same time, and she used to get real mad that I was doing that.”

In high school, Mahomes followed in his dad’s footsteps and played baseball (pitcher no less); and also starred on the school’s basketball and football teams. He was actually picked in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers, but decided to play college football instead. A decision that has clearly paid dividends.
