Did Taylor Swift Cut a Lyric From Her Latest Surprise Song Because of Travis Kelce?

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour surprise songs are always a big conversation on TikTok—and her most recent mash-up was no exception.

During Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Singapore on March 6, the 34-year-old pop star combined “Fifteen” from Fearless (2008) with “You’re on Your Own, Kid” from Midnights (2022), two songs about melancholic yearning for young love, released 14 years apart. Swifties were freaking out about this mash-up for multiple reasons—the nostalgia of “Fifteen,” the friendship bracelet lyric in “YOYOK,” a potential math-based Easter egg that doesn’t make much sense to me—but at least one fan noticed something missing.

As X.com user @Audrey_Ratjack pointed out, Swift omitted the “Fifteen” lyric, “In your life you’ll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team / I didn’t know it at fifteen.”

“Take that information as you will,” the X.com user wrote. Of course, the insinuation here is that Swift left out the lyric because she’s currently dating three-time Super Bowl–winning NFL player Travis Kelce.

To be fair, some lyrics are bound to get cut when mashing up two songs, so this may have been a practical choice more than anything else. Still, this is the same artist who changed those “Karma” lyrics from “guy on the screen” to “guy on the Chiefs” during the Midnights portion of the set list. Plus, she knows that her fans enjoy reading into her surprise songs lyrics and may not have wanted the football lyric interpreted as a dig toward Kelce. Honestly, it could go either way.

Of course, whether she sings that lyric or not, Swift has done way greater things in life than date the guy on the football team—just ask Travis Kelce. During the latest episode of his podcast, New Heights, the 34-year-old athlete spoke to his brother about all those Australian-zoo date photos, revealing that they were not taken by drones like dads, Brads suggested.

“There were full-on helicopters just flying around,” Kelce said. “They helicoptered us! Well, not us—Taylor. This is all because Taylor is the biggest and the best thing possible.” And don’t you forget it!

Of course, the Swifties decoded the reference immediately.

Nothing gets past the Swifties, not even a super subtle lyric change. No, we’re not talking about Taylor Swift’s “guy on the Chiefs” line in “Karma” that practically broke the internet last year. Instead, Swift gave her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, a much more discreet shoutout during her most recent show.

During Thursday’s show in Singapore, fans noticed that Swift left out a certain lyric when she sang a mashup of her hits “Fifteen” and “You’re On Your Own Kid” as the evening’s surprise songs. In a TikTok video posted by a fan, Swift can be heard skipping the line, “Well, in your life you’ll do things / Greater than dating the boy on the football team / I didn’t know it at fifteen.”

Because of the nature of a medley, Swift left out portions of each song, but of course, fans couldn’t help but tie the switch up back to her football-playing boyfriend Kelce, who is allegedly already on his way to Singapore to catch her final shows in the country

“Taylor Alison Swift sang fifteen but didn’t sing the line in ‘Fifteen’ that states, ‘You’ll do greater things than dating the boy on the football team, I didn’t know it at fifteen.’ Take that information as you will,” one fan wrote on X.

Swift has become a big football fan since she and Kelce started dating last summer. Aside from cheering on her man nearly every weekend and her hilarious “dads, Brads, and Chads” quotes in her Time Person of the Year interview, Swift is now partnering with the NFL to release new music.

People reported on Wednesday that the Apple TV+ series The Dynasty: New England Patriots features a sneak peek of “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version).” The rerecorded hit plays in the background of one clip that shows former Patriots player Danny Amendola talking about Tom Brady.
